Nicole Kidman Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Parents at Palm Springs International Film Awards

Nicole Kidman delivered a heartfelt speech as she accepted the International Star Award at the 36th Palm Springs International Film Awards on Friday. The Australian actress became emotional while reflecting on the loss of her parents, mother Janelle and father Anthony, during her acceptance speech.

Kidman, who lost her mother in September 2024 and her father in 2014, shared how deeply their love and resilience shaped her. "I’ve lost both my parents, and I’m in that place, like, okay, this is different now," she said, addressing the audience. "They’ve given me the resilience, the love, and the strength to keep moving forward."

Recounting her mother’s passing, Kidman revealed she learned the news shortly before receiving an award at the Venice Film Festival for her role in Babygirl. "I arrived in Venice, and she was gone. I got the call," she recalled. "Now I’m on stage, and I’m back here. This is for my mom."

The actress dedicated her award to her parents, who she said inspired her throughout her career. "My whole career has been for my mom and my dad, and they’re not here anymore," she said tearfully. "I want to keep working and giving to the world. I feel my mama right now. This is for you, mama."

Kidman is generating significant buzz this awards season for her role in Babygirl, an erotic drama where she portrays a senior executive consumed by an obsession with a younger colleague. Kidman, who previously won an Oscar for her performance in The Hours (2003), is once again a strong contender for accolades.

Her moving tribute and stellar performance remind fans of her immense talent and humanity, cementing her legacy as one of Hollywood’s most cherished stars.
