Nicole Kidman Stuns in Bold New Film Babygirl

Nicole Kidman, the celebrated Australian actress, continues to push creative boundaries with her latest project, Babygirl. The erotic thriller, directed by Halina Reijn, sees Kidman take on one of her most daring roles yet, playing Romy, a successful but sexually unfulfilled CEO who embarks on a risky affair with a younger intern, portrayed by Harris Dickinson.

Reijn, known for her feminist perspective, describes the film as a modern take on provocative classics like Fatal Attraction and 9½ Weeks, addressing themes like power dynamics and the “orgasm gap.” Kidman was the director’s first choice for the role due to her willingness to embrace complex, layered characters.

“She has the courage to bring authenticity to a character like Romy,” says Reijn. “This isn’t a likable character at first glance, but Nicole made her human.”

Kidman’s performance earned her the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival and is already generating Oscar buzz. Reactions to the film have been intense and varied. “Some people were disturbed, others were turned on, but everyone had a visceral reaction,” Kidman says.

For Kidman, Babygirl is a return to the bold storytelling that has defined her career. From her groundbreaking role in Eyes Wide Shut to her celebrated performance in David Hare’s The Blue Room, the actress has never shied away from challenging roles.

“I’ve had highs and lows in my career, but this is definitely a high,” Kidman shares.

When she’s not breaking cinematic boundaries, Kidman enjoys a quiet life with her husband, country singer Keith Urban, and their daughters in Nashville. Yet, this stability fuels her creativity. “It’s what allows me to take risks in my career,” she says.

As she approaches nearly four decades in Hollywood, Kidman remains as fearless and innovative as ever.

Babygirl hits theaters on January 10.
