Beckinsale recalled being called degrading names on a set after confronting a male co-star who was frequently drunk. “I waited six hours a day for him to learn his lines, missing time with my daughter,” she shared. Instead of addressing the issue, the studio gave her a bike to pass the time.
On two other sets, Beckinsale revealed she was subjected to extreme diet and exercise regimens that led to severe health issues, including the loss of her menstrual cycle.
The actress also recounted being injured during an action scene by a male co-star who seemed to enjoy the opportunity to harm her. Despite having MRIs to prove her injuries, she was ostracized by the cast after speaking up.
In another instance, Beckinsale was forced to participate in a photoshoot just one day after experiencing a miscarriage. When she objected, her publicist allegedly threatened her with legal action.
“These stories are not isolated,” Beckinsale said. “This has been going on forever. I have 47 million stories similar to this.” She shared how, at 18, she was assaulted by a crew member and dismissed by others when she tried to report it.
Beckinsale emphasized the toxic culture that silences women in the industry. “If you mention it, you’re destroyed. That has to stop.” She expressed gratitude to Lively for reigniting the conversation about harassment in Hollywood, urging for systemic change.
Her candid revelations highlight the urgent need to address and eliminate harassment and abuse in the entertainment industry.
