John Capodice, a seasoned character actor known for his roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and General Hospital, has passed away at the age of 83. His death was confirmed on the Pizzi Funeral Home website in New Jersey on Thursday. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Born on Christmas Day, 1941, in Chicago, Capodice served in the U.S. Army during the mid-1960s in Korea. After his military service, he pursued acting in New York City, starting with Off-Broadway productions.

Capodice's television career began with a role in Ryan’s Hope in 1978. He went on to appear in popular shows such as As the World Turns, Seinfeld, L.A. Law, Melrose Place, and Will & Grace. He also had a recurring role on General Hospital and appeared in Broadway productions.

On the big screen, Capodice delivered standout performances in films like Wall Street, The Doors, Speed, and Independence Day. He is fondly remembered for his portrayal of a sarcastic detective in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. His most recent appearance was in the 2024 comedy series Conversation with Monster.

Capodice is survived by his wife, two daughters, and four grandchildren. The family has requested donations in his memory to be made to Rockland Homes for Heroes, as noted in his obituary.
