In the motion, Jay-Z asserts that Buzbee failed to withdraw the lawsuit after inconsistencies in the accuser’s story were exposed in a televised interview on NBC News. The accuser’s statements regarding the details of the alleged assault have been contradicted by evidence, according to Jay-Z’s legal team.
For example, the accuser claimed that the assault took place at a large, white residence with a gated U-shaped driveway, about 20 minutes from the VMAs venue. However, photos show Jay-Z at the Lotus nightclub in Manhattan immediately following the event, casting doubt on her version of events.
Additionally, the accuser stated that her father picked her up after the assault, yet he has no recollection of such an incident. Jay-Z’s filing notes that the trip from the alleged location would have taken approximately 10 hours roundtrip, making it unlikely that the father would not remember such a journey.
The accuser also claimed to have watched the VMAs on a Jumbotron outside Radio City Music Hall. However, Jay-Z points out that there was no Jumbotron outside the venue, as photos and records show, and New York City had denied MTV’s request to set one up.
Another claim made by the accuser involved an alleged conversation with musician Benji Madden at the afterparty. Yet, Madden’s representative told NBC News that the singer was not even in New York City at the time of the 2000 VMAs due to touring commitments.
Jay-Z's legal team argues that these easily disproven discrepancies should have led Buzbee to investigate further before filing the lawsuit, which Jay-Z claims has caused significant damage to his public image.
In response, Tony Buzbee has criticized Jay-Z’s legal efforts, calling them desperate. Buzbee's statement dismissed the accusations, asserting that Jay-Z’s legal team is attempting to intimidate him with meritless and baseless filings. Buzbee emphasized that his team would not be intimidated and vowed to continue pursuing the case.
This legal battle continues to unfold as both sides present their arguments in court.
