Zoë Kravitz Opens Up About Channing Tatum After Their Breakup

Zoë Kravitz recently shared her thoughts on Channing Tatum for the first time since their October breakup, reflecting on their professional collaboration during the making of Blink Twice, her directorial debut.

In a conversation with Variety as part of their Directors on Directors series, published on December 18, Kravitz, 36, discussed Tatum’s role in the psychological thriller. She revealed that Tatum was the first actor she thought of for the part of Slater King, a tech billionaire with a complex, mysterious character. “I don’t know where that came from,” Kravitz admitted, sharing her surprise at the initial inspiration.

Throughout the film's press tour, which wrapped up just before their split, Kravitz had openly praised Tatum for his skills, often gushing about their connection. In hindsight, she emphasized how Tatum’s charisma was a key part of his character. “I wanted to weaponize his charisma,” Kravitz said, noting that fans have never seen Tatum in a role like this before. The character of Slater King is intentionally charming, which serves to mislead Frida, played by Naomi Ackie, who begins to question his true intentions as their vacation takes a dark turn.

Kravitz also spoke highly of Ackie’s performance, explaining that she wanted Frida to be played by someone with a highly expressive face, and from their first meeting, Kravitz knew Ackie was the perfect fit.

For Kravitz, Blink Twice is more than just a professional milestone; it also holds personal significance. The film marked the beginning of her romance with Tatum, which started while they were working together on set. In August 2021, media outlets confirmed that Kravitz and Tatum had begun dating, and the two were engaged by 2023.

However, as their press tour for Blink Twice came to a close in 2024, their relationship ended, surprising many who had noticed the chemistry between them. Despite the end of their romance, Kravitz and Tatum remain professionally connected. They have both signed on to star in Alpha Gang, a new project that has been generating buzz.

A source close to the former couple shared that there is no animosity between them, and both are eager to work on a project they believe has great potential, proving that their creative partnership is still going strong despite their personal split.
