The movie Wicked is soaring high at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing musical adaptation in U.S. history. Its domestic earnings have reached $214.3 million, surpassing the lifetime gross of Grease, a classic from nearly 50 years ago.
Projections suggest Wicked will add close to $50 million by the end of the weekend, bringing its domestic total to an estimated $263 million. Globally, the film has already amassed an impressive $360 million since its release earlier this month.
