Wilde, who has always sought inspiration from international films less influenced by social media trends, also expressed her desire to create films outside Hollywood's typical narrative constraints. She noted that filmmakers from societies not shaped by clichés often produce more original and impactful work.
With dual U.S.-Ireland citizenship and a deep connection to Ireland through her parents, Wilde revealed her "real dream" is to direct a film set in Ireland. Growing up in Washington, D.C., she was surrounded by the world of journalism and documentary filmmaking, thanks to her parents, both of whom were accomplished journalists.
Her early exposure to filmmaking inspired her to pursue acting, despite the industry’s tough competition. Wilde's career began with roles in TV shows like The O.C. and movies such as Alpha Dog and House. However, it wasn’t until she was 34 that Wilde transitioned to directing, debuting with Booksmart, a coming-of-age comedy that resonated with audiences.
Wilde’s directorial journey continued with Don’t Worry Darling in 2022, starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. She shared that her approach to filmmaking is always about pushing herself further, seeking out projects that challenge her creatively. Acting, for Wilde, serves as a way to learn and observe other directors on set, a unique opportunity few filmmakers get.
Above all, Wilde emphasized that her goal is to create meaningful films rather than seeking public approval. For her, success lies in staying true to her artistic vision, not in trying to please everyone.
