Nancy Pelosi Reveals One of Her Biggest Regrets: Hosting Saturday Night Live

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently shared a regret that might surprise many: she will never get to host the iconic Saturday Night Live (SNL) show. During an insightful conversation with actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus on the Wiser Than Me podcast, Pelosi opened up about her feelings on this missed opportunity.

"I will never host Saturday Night Live," Pelosi said, reflecting on the past. "One of my regrets is that." She added with a smile, "I'm really funny."

Louis-Dreyfus, who has a long history with SNL, wasn’t about to let Pelosi’s regret go unnoticed. Responding to the remark, the Emmy-winning actress playfully challenged Pelosi to make it happen, even suggesting she join her on the show.

However, Pelosi quickly dashed any hopes of future hosting plans, saying, "It's too late now. I don't think about it anymore."

Not one to back down, Louis-Dreyfus insisted she would do her best to convince Pelosi to make an appearance, reassuring her that she'd be fantastic on the SNL stage. Louis-Dreyfus, who was a repertory player on the show for three seasons, knows the ropes and was enthusiastic about the possibility.

The discussion between the two also delved into Pelosi’s roots in San Francisco’s Democratic politics, as well as the legacy of George McGovern, the former Democratic senator from South Dakota. Louis-Dreyfus recalled McGovern hosting SNL during the 1980s, reflecting on how politicians have often appeared on the show to engage with American audiences.

For those unfamiliar, McGovern was a key figure in the 1972 presidential race, running against Richard Nixon. McGovern was one of many politicians to step onto the SNL stage, including names like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Elizabeth Warren. Notably, even Donald Trump, the current president-elect, has hosted the show twice.

While Pelosi might never get the chance to host SNL, it’s clear that her sense of humor and strong political legacy have already made a lasting impression, both on and off the stage.
