Luigi Mangione Pleads Not Guilty to Murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO

Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate, pleaded not guilty to the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The plea was made on Monday in a New York State court, where Mangione faces 11 charges, including first-degree murder and terrorism-related charges.

Mangione appeared in court dressed casually, wearing a maroon sweater, white shirt, and khaki pants. He was accompanied by his lawyers, Karen and Marc Agnifilo. If convicted, Mangione could spend life in prison without the possibility of parole.

This is Mangione’s second time pleading not guilty. Last week, he appeared in federal court to face charges that could lead to the death penalty. The state’s case is expected to take priority over the federal charges.

The murder occurred last month when Mangione allegedly killed Thompson as he entered the Midtown Hilton hotel. After the crime, Mangione fled the scene on a bicycle and escaped the city. He was later arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after someone recognized him from wanted posters at a McDonald's.

During the investigation, police discovered a diary believed to belong to Mangione, which suggests he planned the attack and has a strong distrust of the American corporate system.

Mangione is currently being held in the MDC Brooklyn jail while awaiting his trial. His lawyer, Karen Agnifilo, declined to comment after the court appearance.
