Jim Carrey Returns as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic 3 Despite Retirement Talk

Jim Carrey, the iconic actor and comedian, had hinted at retiring from acting in 2022 after reprising his role as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. At the time, Carrey expressed a desire to step away from Hollywood, saying he enjoyed his quiet life, painting, and spirituality. “I’ve done enough. I am enough,” he remarked during the film’s press tour, adding he would only return for a script of extraordinary significance.

However, Carrey's retirement proved to be short-lived. The actor is back as Dr. Robotnik for the third installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, set to release on December 20. When asked about his earlier retirement comments, Carrey humorously told AP Entertainment, “That might’ve been hyperbole.” He joked about his reasons for returning, saying, “I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”
