Jim Carrey recently shared his thoughts on reprising some of his most iconic roles, including the green-faced trickster from The Mask and the Grinch. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Carrey was asked about a potential sequel to the 1994 hit The Mask, which became a massive success, grossing $351 million worldwide. While Carrey expressed interest, he made it clear that it would depend on having the right idea. He emphasized that it's not about money, though he admitted he jokes about it.
Carrey also discussed his previous comments about retiring from acting, clarifying that he’s not stepping away for good. In 2022, he mentioned he was "fairly serious" about retiring, but now, he's back playing Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and exploring new opportunities. Carrey explained that his desire to retire was more about taking a break and recharging, as a good project or team can quickly change his mind.
When it comes to The Grinch, Carrey expressed willingness to return to the role if they could figure out a way to avoid the exhausting makeup process. He recalled the grueling time spent in the Grinch costume and makeup, but noted that with advancements like motion capture, it could be more manageable. For Carrey, it’s all about finding the right approach, especially if it allows him to be more comfortable while still bringing joy to fans.
Fans can catch Jim Carrey back on the big screen as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which opens on December 20.
