Jamie Foxx Reveals He Suffered a Near-Fatal Stroke While Filming in 2023

Jamie Foxx recently revealed that he suffered a stroke in April 2023, which almost claimed his life. The actor opened up about the health scare during his Netflix comedy special, "Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was...". He explained that the stroke was caused by a brain bleed while filming his movie "Back in Action" in Atlanta.

Foxx shared an emotional account of the incident, recalling a severe headache on April 11 and asking a friend for an aspirin. However, before he could even take the medication, he lost consciousness. The next thing he remembered was waking up 20 days later in the hospital with no memory of the time that had passed.

Initially, Foxx's friends took him to a doctor, who gave him a cortisone shot. But it was his sister, Deidra Dixon, who suspected something more serious and took him to Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. There, doctors confirmed that he was experiencing a brain bleed, and without immediate surgery, he could have died.

Foxx described the experience as peaceful, despite the terrifying circumstances, and mentioned that he saw a tunnel, though he didn’t see the light at the end. Instead, he joked that he saw the devil, wondering if he was heading to the wrong place.

When he woke up from his coma and realized he was in a wheelchair, Foxx became emotional. However, in true Foxx fashion, he blended humor and emotion to tell the story of his life-threatening health crisis, which he had kept private until now. Thankfully, he made a full recovery.
