Documentary Explores UnitedHealthcare CEO’s Murder and U.S. Healthcare System

Stephen Robert Morse, a two-time Emmy-nominated director known for In the Cold Dark Night and Amanda Knox, is set to direct a feature documentary on Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the December 2024 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The film will examine the case, its societal impact, and broader issues such as vigilantism, privatized healthcare, and systemic failures.

Morse described the project as a balanced exploration of the case, aiming to respect the profound loss of life while presenting all sides of the story. "My goal is to provoke discussion and foster understanding by showing the complexities of this tragedy," he told Deadline.

The documentary team, which includes cinematographer Matt Cianfrani, investigative journalist Hannah Ghorashi, and filmmaker Eli Eisenstein, has issued a public call for information. They are seeking stories from individuals with insights into the case, UnitedHealthcare, or the U.S. healthcare system. Tips can be sent via Instagram or email at research@morsecodegroup.com.

Mangione, 26, was arrested in Pennsylvania on December 9, charged with Thompson’s murder. Authorities reportedly found a ghost gun and an anti-healthcare industry manifesto in his possession.
