Barry Keoghan Speaks Out Against Online Harassment After Sabrina Carpenter Split

Barry Keoghan has become the target of online harassment following his split from singer Sabrina Carpenter. The actor deactivated his Instagram account on Friday after enduring waves of harsh comments and rumors about their breakup.

On December 7, 2024, Keoghan addressed the issue on X (formerly Twitter), expressing frustration and concern over the intense scrutiny. "I can only sit and take so much," he wrote, explaining that his name had been unfairly dragged through the internet. He noted that he usually avoids responding to such negativity but felt compelled to speak out due to the escalating attacks.

The breakup between Keoghan and Carpenter, who had been dating for nearly a year, sparked rumors that Keoghan had been unfaithful. A source close to the couple told PEOPLE that they decided to part ways to focus on their respective careers, describing the split as mutual.

In his statement, Keoghan shared how the online harassment had affected his personal and professional life. He revealed receiving hateful messages about his appearance, character, and parenting, as well as offensive comments about his late mother, who passed away due to drug addiction. He also mentioned instances where individuals harassed his family members, including knocking on his grandmother's door and loitering near his child’s home.

Keoghan called for an end to the hateful behavior, emphasizing the damage it has caused to his mental health and loved ones. "The messages I have received—no person should ever have to read them," he stated.
