Barbara Broccoli Opposes Female 007 Spinoff, Criticizes Amazon's Plans

James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has reportedly rejected Amazon’s idea for a female-led 007 spinoff TV series. Broccoli, who controls the rights to the Bond franchise, reportedly expressed her disapproval of Amazon's direction for the next Bond film and TV projects, calling the executives "idiots."

Amazon, which acquired the Bond rights in a $8.5 billion deal with MGM in 2022, had pitched several ideas, including a series focusing on Miss Moneypenny. However, Broccoli has reportedly made it clear she doesn’t support these plans, even threatening to delay a Bond sequel if necessary.

Broccoli has previously stated that the next Bond should be a man, emphasizing the importance of creating original roles for women rather than "gender-swapping" iconic male characters. She has shown some openness to a diverse portrayal of Bond, provided the character remains British and male.

Meanwhile, former Bond girl Gemma Arterton criticized the idea of a female Bond, comparing it to a male-playing Mary Poppins. Arterton believes the tradition of Bond being male should be respected.
