Andrew Garfield Praises Jacob Elordi for Taking Over His Role in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein

Andrew Garfield recently shared his feelings about stepping away from Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein film due to scheduling conflicts. Garfield, who was initially cast in the project, expressed disappointment about leaving but showed support for Jacob Elordi, who replaced him in the role.

In a conversation with Deadline at the Red Sea International Film Festival, Garfield emphasized there was no bad blood between him and Elordi. Reflecting on the change, he said, “I was hearing about how amazing, and [how much] hard work, and how satisfying that [job] was for him,” adding that he was “glad” Elordi could take on the part.

Garfield shared that meeting Elordi at the Marrakech Film Festival helped him come to terms with the situation. He described the encounter as “serendipitous,” noting it gave him the sense that Elordi might have needed the role more than he did.

While Garfield admitted to feeling disappointed about not working with del Toro and co-star Oscar Isaac, he spoke highly of the project and those involved. Fans had initially been excited about Garfield’s casting, and the change sparked some debate. However, Elordi’s excitement for the role, combined with his strong performances in Euphoria, Saltburn, and Priscilla, has reassured many about his casting.
