Alicia Keys Rallies for Kamala Harris, Warns Against "Turning Back the Clock" on Women's Rights

Alicia Keys joined the campaign trail for Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania today, delivering a powerful speech in Montgomery County alongside former First Lady Michelle Obama. While she refrained from directly naming Donald Trump, Keys cautioned that supporting his platform would mean “turning back the clock” on women’s rights.

“If you don’t vote for her, or you don’t vote at all, you’re voting for the chaos and the hate,” Keys warned the crowd. She painted a stark picture of a future shaped by the opposition’s values: “You’re voting for a cruel tomorrow for immigrants, people of color, women, girls, our children, and our planet.”

Expressing her desire for a diverse future, Keys said she hopes her children grow up in a world where they can see leaders who look like Kamala Harris. She argued that a lack of female leaders has led many to doubt women’s capacity for top roles. “When our kids look around their classrooms at the pictures of presidents on the wall, every single one is a man, one Black guy,” she noted. “No wonder it’s hard for many to imagine a female president. They have never seen one, and if they can’t see it, how can they believe it?”

Keys voiced concerns about ongoing battles for women’s reproductive rights, pointing out that while women once had freedom, recent changes show that rights can easily be stripped away. Referring to the overturning of *Roe v. Wade,* she warned, “If it’s been done already, what makes us think that there couldn’t be a leader in place for the other side that would say, ‘Forget equal pay. Women don’t need it. Or, ‘We don’t need to educate women anymore. They can just stay at home. They don’t work anyway.’”

“This is not some dystopian Netflix show that I am talking about,” Keys concluded. “This is like the platform the other side is running on. They want to turn back the clock.”
