This unique ritual comes from a saying by Seamus, a British in-ear tech on her team, who would always assure her before each show by saying, “It’s gonna be a piece of piss” – British slang for “easy peasy.” Rodrigo explained that she’s made it a personal ritual to repeat this phrase back to him for a little luck. “Before every show, I make sure that I say, ‘Seamus, it’s gonna be a piece of piss,’” she shared with People.
She’s so superstitious, in fact, that she worries her performance might fall short if he doesn’t say the phrase. “If he doesn’t say that, I’m convinced it’s going to be a bad show,” Rodrigo admitted. With the tour’s major success, it seems this little ritual served her well.
The GUTS tour, which kicked off in February in Palm Springs, California, took Rodrigo across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. It concluded in August with a standout performance at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles – all captured in the new Netflix special. Rodrigo mentioned she filmed it so that fans could “relive the show,” expressing pride in capturing the tour’s energy and her connection with fans.
After the GUTS tour’s completion, Rodrigo is now ready to take a breather. Yet, songwriting remains a form of self-care for the “Vampire” singer, and she hinted that even in her downtime, new melodies may emerge. Reflecting on her achievements, Rodrigo shared that she feels fulfilled, having accomplished her goals of recording an album, touring, and bonding with her fanbase.
For now, Rodrigo is on a well-deserved break but hinted that she’s open to new opportunities on the horizon. Fans can enjoy her tour experience from the comfort of their homes, with Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour now available for streaming on Netflix.
