Movie director Barry Sonnenfeld revealed that during the filming of the 1997 sci-fi film "Men in Black," Smith’s excessive flatulence caused the entire cast and crew to leave the set for three hours.
Sonnenfeld made this surprising announcement on Wednesday's episode of Kelly Ripa's podcast, "Let's Talk Off Camera," while discussing his new book, "Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time."
The director told Ripa that Smith passed gas while filming a scene with co-star Tommy Lee Jones inside a "hermetically sealed" vehicle that turned into a hypercar in Manhattan's Midtown Tunnel.
However, Sonnenfeld said that Smith’s flatulence became a significant issue, as it continued to be a problem during the stinky shoot.
The smell was so unbearable, Sonnenfeld said, that he had to climb down a ladder and quickly exit the tunnel with Jones.
Sonnenfeld noted that the odor was so overwhelming it forced the cast and crew to leave the area for three hours.
According to Sonnenfeld, Smith was very apologetic and described him as a nice guy, but a "farter," adding, "That's just how some people are."
