Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock Celebrate Speed's 30th Anniversary

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock reunited on October 8 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their iconic film Speed. The special screening took place at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles as part of Beyond Fest. Joining them was director Jan de Bont, who spoke fondly about the film's impact.

Reeves, now 60, reminisced about his role as SWAT officer Jack Traven, who boards a bus rigged with a bomb that will detonate if its speed drops below 50 mph. “We knew we were doing something wacky,” he said. Bullock, also 60, played Annie Porter, a passenger who helps prevent the bus from exploding. She humorously noted, “I was behind the wheel of a projectile, so I was just happy to be alive at the end of the day.” Reflecting on her experience as a newcomer, Bullock added, “I was just in it,” emphasizing her focus on safety during the intense scenes.

De Bont praised Reeves and Bullock for their performances, saying, “I have never been so proud of those two actors.” He highlighted their chemistry, noting how genuine their relationship felt on screen. “All the emotions were right, all the laughter was right,” he said, expressing his gratitude for their contributions.

The original Speed film was a major success, winning two Oscars, but it spawned a poorly received sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control, in 1997, which featured Bullock but not Reeves.

Looking ahead, Reeves is set to reprise his role as John Wick in the upcoming Ballerina, scheduled for release in 2025. He will also play an angel in Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune and is producing an adaptation of his comic book series BRZRKR. Bullock is working on a sequel to Practical Magic, co-starring Nicole Kidman.
