Perry, 39, had been a judge on American Idol for seven years before announcing her decision to leave and work on her "comeback" while spending more time with fiancé Orlando Bloom and their three-year-old daughter, Daisy. However, her spot will be filled by former Idol winner Carrie Underwood in the upcoming 23rd season, where she will join Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan on the panel.
Insiders say Perry’s recent album, 143, flopped, leading to her reconsideration. The lead single, Woman’s World, was heavily criticized, with NME branding it “the most disastrous comeback single in recent memory.” The song peaked at number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking her weakest lead single to date. Many believe her choice to work with producer Dr. Luke, who was involved in a controversial lawsuit with singer Kesha, contributed to the album’s failure.
Adding to her troubles, Perry's $15 million mansion suffered significant water damage, with repairs now needed. The home had been part of a legal battle with the previous owner, Carl Westcott, who claimed he was not in a sound state of mind when he agreed to the sale. Although the court ruled in Perry’s favor, further proceedings were delayed after the water leak was discovered, and a ruling on the damages is still pending.
