Bethany Joy Lenz Opens Up About Forced Marriage and Life in Christian Cult

Bethany Joy Lenz recently opened up about her time with The Big House Family, a Christian group she now refers to as a cult. Speaking on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, the former "One Tree Hill" star shared details of her decade-long involvement with the group, including a forced marriage to one of the leader’s sons, who she called "QB."

Lenz revealed that the group not only took control of much of her Hollywood earnings but also pushed her and her husband into following a "sex schedule." She explained that this schedule was imposed as a way to strengthen their relationship, despite her reluctance. “It was a routine I had to participate in to keep the peace in my marriage,” Lenz said, adding that she “hated” the experience.

Lenz shared how difficult it was for her to return home after long absences, knowing she’d be expected to follow the schedule. "I had so much PTSD from showing up at the airport, knowing what was ahead for the next two or three weeks,” she recounted.

Though she didn’t confirm if QB was her ex-husband, musician Michael Galeotti, Lenz was married to Galeotti from 2005 to 2012. The couple shares a 13-year-old daughter. Lenz eventually left the group in 2012 and has since written about her experiences in her memoir, Dinner for Vampires.

She first joined the group in the early 2000s, around the time she landed her breakout role on One Tree Hill. Her co-stars, including Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray, were aware of her involvement and even tried to help her. Reflecting on her time in the group, Lenz acknowledged missing out on numerous career opportunities, saying, “I was convinced I was making a noble, spiritual sacrifice.”
