As she prepares to star in the movie adaptation of the Broadway hit "Wicked," set to premiere next month, Ariana assured the audience that she wouldn’t be singing that night—just fulfilling her hosting duties. But as is often the case with Ariana, plans quickly changed. Almost as soon as she got the mic in hand, she launched into an impressive, three-minute musical monologue, defying her earlier declaration.
One standout moment was when she humorously claimed she wouldn’t mimic the vocal styles of icons like Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, or Gwen Stefani. But, to everyone’s delight, she flawlessly nailed their signature sounds, leaving the audience in awe.
Adding to the fun, Ariana made a cheeky "Wicked" joke, teasing that she wouldn’t discuss her new film. This was followed by a hilarious encounter with Bowen Yang, who was dressed in full Glinda pink, delivering the news that their sketch had been cut.
Despite her initial claims, Ariana didn’t shy away from singing throughout the night. She ended up performing in nearly half of the aired sketches, proving that her talent was front and center despite her playful protestations.
Stevie Nicks took the spotlight for a performance, giving Ariana a few brief moments to breathe between costume changes. While she didn’t attempt a Nicks impression, Ariana more than made up for it with her incredible vocal versatility and quick wit, earning plenty of laughs from the audience along the way. Overall, it was a night filled with laughter, nostalgia, and, of course, fantastic singing from one of pop’s biggest stars.
