Andrew Garfield is officially back on the market! Recently, Kate Tomas revealed that she and the "Amazing Spider-Man" star broke up months ago. On Saturday, October 12, Tomas took to the comments section of an Instagram post to clarify their relationship status after a fan asked if she was still dating Garfield. She responded, “We broke up months ago, but I’m sure he will be happy to know that he is loved.”
The conversation didn’t stop there. When another user pressed her about always mentioning Garfield, she fired back, “Sweetheart, the only people who ever talk about or center a man in my life, work, business, and social media are women like you.” Talk about a comeback!
Garfield and Tomas first sparked romance rumors in March when they were spotted holding hands during a double date with Phoebe Bridgers and Bo Burnham. Despite being linked to a few notable women over the years, Garfield is known for keeping his love life under wraps. In a 2021 interview with Bustle, he explained, “I’m not in the public eye to a great degree because I’ve designed it that way for myself.” He values his privacy and prefers to keep his personal life separate from his career.
In a recent interview with Esquire, Garfield doubled down on his stance, stating, “I have never, and I won’t ever, speak about or confirm or deny anything about my personal life with anyone ever.” It’s clear he prioritizes his privacy and the chance to live life as a “regular human being” without the constant scrutiny.
Throughout the 2010s, Garfield was linked to his "Spider-Man" co-star Emma Stone, and he dated model Alyssa Miller briefly in 2021 before they split in April 2022. Like his relationship with Tomas, those romances remained largely private.
In a July 2024 interview with The Sunday Times, Tomas shared her frustrations about the media’s focus on her relationship with Garfield. She called out the press for taking numerous photos of her but only publishing the most unflattering ones. She expressed her disappointment over how her identity was often overshadowed by her association with him. “It’s frustrating that no matter how accomplished or impactful a woman is, it’s always going to be more interesting if they are in a relationship with a man,” she said, emphasizing her desire to stand on her own merits.
As both Garfield and Tomas move forward, it seems they're ready to carve out their own identities, separate from one another.
